Hybrid Time-of-Flight Image Sensors for Middle-Range Outdoor Applications

This paper introduces a new series of time-of-flight (TOF) range image sensors that can be used for outdoor middle-range (10m to 100m) applications by employing small duty-cycle modulated light pulse with relatively high optical peak power. set TOF is referred here as hybrid (hTOF) sensor. The hTOF sensor based on the indirect measurement principle but simultaneously uses direct concept coarse measurements. Compared conventional applications, has distinct advantage due reduction capturing ambient charge. To show potential operation, model estimating distance precision built and applied it using possible specifications estimate camera in 10m, 20m 40m measurements under ambient-light condition 100klux its feasibility discussed. In 10m-range measurements, compared discussed considering amount captured charge pixels.
